UNION CITY, Ohio – Two men were arrested after authorities busted an active meth lab cook operation in Union City Thursday afternoon.
According to the UCO Police Department, officers raided the garage behind 210 East Oak St. after an ongoing investigation tipped them off of an active cook taking place. The two story concrete block garage sat in a populated residential neighborhood with children right next door.
A meth suppression unit was on scene to safely dismantle and remove the items used in the cook. One of the unit officers stated “there is a lot in there”.
“This was a coordinated effort between the Union City Ohio and Indiana police departments, along with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office,” stated Sgt. David McHenry of the Union City Ohio PD.
Joshua N. Lewis, 34, and Daniel L. Bullock , 33, were arrested at the scene were transported to the Darke County jail. Both face one count of Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs (methamphetamine), a felony of the first degree; and Illegal Assembly or Possession of Chemicals to Manufacture Drugs, a third degree felony. Lewis also faces a possible probation violation in addition to the new charges.
They appeared by video in the Darke County Common Pleas Court Friday afternoon for an initial appearance on the charges. Lewis was given a $50,000 bond, while Bullock was ordered a $40,000 bond in the case. Both are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Municipal Court Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. If convicted as charged, both men face up to 14 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
