To the many hard-working, courageous people who have  left their homes – whether they be in Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, or any other country on any continent in the world:

I offer my best thoughts and encouragement as you seek a better life in the United States, hoping to escape a level of poverty few of us here can begin to understand.

To the American people:

I encourage your creativity and determination in generating political will that demands lasting solutions to conflicts, instead of military intervention which costs billions of dollars, breeds corruption, and directs resources toward death and destruction.

To those who fear that acts of terrorism may be perpetrated by people who appear different from you:

I encourage you to focus attention on passing legislation that will limit the possibility that guns end up in the wrong hands at public gatherings and in homes.
